8 Quick Tips For Brewing Better Coffee

!±8± 8 Quick Tips For Brewing Better Coffee

If you are like many Americans, your day doesn't start until you have downed a cup of coffee But getting the perfect brew is not an easy task. If your morning joe leaves a lot to be desired, follow these easy steps to brewing a better cup.

Invest in a Quality Coffee Maker. It all starts with a good coffee machine. If you are a true coffee lover, you will want to invest some money in your brewing equipment. While you do not need to spend hundreds on a professional coffee maker, you will want to read reviews and find the right machine for your budget and your needs. Because more than 50 percent of Americans start their day with coffee the industry has responded with a wide variety of new machines and there are still the old standbys, as well. If you love rich tasting coffee for example, but you don't want to spend a lot, consider a simple French press, which brews delicious coffee and typically costs less than .

Grind your Own Beans. In addition to a coffee brewing machine, you may also want to invest in a bean grinder. Coffee lovers everywhere agree that freshly ground beans make the best tasting coffee.

Buy the Right Beans. Buying a grinder also allows you to experiment with different blends of beans. You can purchase specialty beans from a local micro-roaster. Even if you are just using beans from your local supermarket, you can develop some pretty flavorful combinations with some experimentation. Make sure to store your beans in an airtight container for the best flavor.

Brewing Instructions: Once you have acquired a great coffee maker and a good combination of beans, you'll be ready to make coffee But what truly makes coffee great is the brewing process. No matter what type of coffee machine you use, the follow steps will ensure that you are getting the best coffee that you can.

Start out with a clean coffee maker. The best tasting brew comes from clean equipment. Make sure that your carafe has been cleaned so there are no remnants of the previous morning's coffee and double check that the basket is clear of coffee grounds. Nothing ruins a pot of coffee more than leftover grounds. If you are new to brewing your own coffee start with something mild like an Arabic blend. After you have mastered the art of brewing, you can adjust to find your desired strength of flavor and level of caffeine.

Fill the carafe with fresh, cold water and then fill up the drip reservoir. Make sure to stop just before the reservoir is totally full. Overfilling will not only make a weaker brew, but it could prevent your coffee maker from working properly. Clean up after you pour so there is no excess water on the hotplate or on the machine itself. This will keep your coffee maker working like new for years to come.

Insert one liner (if your coffee machine calls for it) and then use five mounded scoops for ten cups of coffee Adjust your scoops for less cups (one scoop per two cups). You will, of course, adjust the amount of coffee to suit your personal taste as you continue to experiment with your coffee making.

You might also want to try adding a pinch of salt on top of the grounds to cut the bitterness of the coffee Or try adding cinnamon or nutmeg on top of the grounds for a special touch.

Once you have added the water and the grounds, you are ready to brew. Place the carafe under the drip feed and start your machine. To prepare, warm your coffee cups with a rinse under hot water. If you leave the cups cold, the coffee will drop in temperature before you can enjoy it. Gather sweeteners, milk or coffee creamer and you will be ready to enjoy your perfect cup of coffee once it is brewed.

Keurig Platinum B70 Single Cup Coffee Maker - Review

!±8± Keurig Platinum B70 Single Cup Coffee Maker - Review

The B70 Brewer is one of the higher end Keurig home brewers. It has a sleek design in black with platinum trim. The water reservoir and LCD control pad are lit in a calm Caribbean blue. It fits nicely on the counter top and adds a touch of class to any kitchen.

The B70 Brewer comes with easy to follow set-up instructions and is ready to brew in minutes. Although the brewer can be programmed to turn on and off, I prefer to leave mine on so it is ready anytime I want fresh brewed coffee, tea, or cocoa. The brew temperature can also be set to the desired temperature, which you can adjust from between 187 to 192 degrees. The brewer has 5 cup sizes to choose from, depending on choice of beverage, the cup size you are using, and desired brew strength. For example, I enjoy stronger brews, so have my cup size default set for a small mug (7.25 oz) when brewing coffee; however, when brewing hot cocoa I change to the small cup setting, which is 5.25 oz and add about 2 tablespoons of half & half to the bottom of the cup before brewing. It is all a matter of preference and you can select the size with the push of a button. The cup selector also has a memory and automatically returns to the most preferred size; which is selected during set-up. When the K Cup is inserted and the K Cup holder latch is closed, the LCD control pad reads "Ready to Brew", and the selected cup size flashes. If the removable reservoir is low on water, the reservoir light will flash until more water is added - you do not need to remove the reservoir, you can just remove the top and pour in the water. Brewing is as easy as pushing the brew button and your beverage is ready in about 60 seconds. Cleaning of the brewer is easy. The external parts are wiped using a wet cloth. The K cup holder comes apart and is dishwasher safe for easy cleaning. The exit needle located in the K Cup holder may occasionally become clogged with grounds and it is easily cleaned with a paper clip or similar tool. A word of caution when cleaning the K Cup holder; there are two sharp prongs inside so it is recommended you do not put your hands inside the k Cup holder. Using the Keurig B70 Brewer, I have found that it brews a perfect cup of coffee and allows you to choose your favorite blend for the perfect cup every time. It is easy to use and you can have your freshly brewed beverage in a minute of less. The only con I have experienced is occasionally, the brewer will not dispense the correct amount of water (usually less). In the 6 months that I have owned the brewer, this happens about every 15 to 20 brews. Once it was because the needle was clogged with grounds, and another time it seemed like it just didn't pump enough water. Although this is an annoyance and the waste of a k-cup, the brewer is still worth every cent!

There are a wide variety of K Cups available to choose from. Rather your preference is coffee, tea, or cocoa you will be able to purchase your favorite brew from many sources. The more common K Cup flavors are available in grocery and department stores. For a wider selection, you can visit the many online stores to get great buys and they usually offer free shipping for orders of .00 or more. For the best discounts I have found visit http://www.ebates.com/rf.do?referrerid=CtOg6%2BBLwx03Gr9W6W7k3g%3D%3D, you can even purchase your brewer from this site and reap the discounts offered as well as get money back in rewards. Sign up for a free membership, type "coffee for less" in the search stores or coupons box and press enter. You will see a selection of online stores where you can receive rebates from 2.5 to 5% on your coffee purchase and get free shipping. In summary, the Keurig brewing system, rather you purchase the B70 or a less expensive model, is in my opinion, the best choice in a coffee maker. I have grown to absolutely love my Keurig! I want to take it everywhere, and fully intend to purchase the Mini Plus Brewing System for work and vacations. Even coffee house coffee can not compare to the taste of my Keurig!
